About SUIKAEN

For over 500 years, SUIKAEN has carried on the tradition of crafting Takayama chasen in Takayama, Nara — the birthplace of Japan's handcrafted bamboo tea whisk. Today, the workshop is led by 25th-generation Chasen Master Yasaburo Tanimura and his son, 26th-generation Chasen Master Keiichiro Tanimura.

As one of only 14 traditional chasen makers remaining in Japan, SUIKAEN produces approximately 4,000 handcrafted chasen each year. 

Matsu Matcha is deeply honoured to welcome Kay-san and Yumi-san from SUIKAEN to Singapore for their 2nd event, offering a rare opportunity to meet the artisans behind this enduring craft.

 

What to expect

Spend the afternoon with SUIKAEN as they share the story behind the Takayama chasen through live demonstrations, conversations and interactive activities.
